As experts in conservative, nonsurgical treatment, we are known for orthotic therapy for Morton’s neuromas treatment. We offer an orthotic evaluation at our Seattle clinic to determine the best orthotic treatment approach. For patients who live far away or who want to learn more about orthotic therapy, we have created a Guide to the Best Orthotics for Ball of Foot Pain that explains how to get the most out of orthotic treatment.

Orthotics work in a couple ways for neuromas. They help to transfer pressure off the ball of the foot area and reduce pain. They also keep the foot in alignment and cushioned to help with pain-free walking and standing.

Here are our choices for some of the best over-the-counter and prescription orthotics for ball of foot pain:

  • Custom Orthotics: A custom orthotic is prescribed by a podiatrist using a non-weightbearing cast of the foot. They gently and consistently directed into the correct position for walking, running, and standing.
  • Total Contact Orthotics: This type of orthotic conforms extremely close to the arch. It should be extremely comfortable and prescribed only by experienced practitioners. These are the most effective orthotic for neuromas because they are the most effective at reducing pressure under the ball of the foot.
  • Prefabricated Arch Supports: In some cases, inserting a prefabricated arch support is helpful for neuromas. Our favorite OTC arch support for neuromas is the PowerStep Medical Grade Arch Support. The high and firm arch support does the best job of any prefabricated orthotic at reducing pressure under the balls of the feet.
