“I never forget that my one true objective is to help you. Doctoring is about people, after all, and that’s really what drove me to choose this path in life. After graduating from college with an engineering degree, I was faced with a decision between graduate school and following in my father’s footsteps to pursue podiatric medicine. Ultimately, I realized that I enjoyed being with people, interacting with them and doing my best to benefit them in a meaningful way. Today, more than a decade since becoming a foot-and-ankle specialist, I still get a lot of personal satisfaction from what I do. I apply myself- and my skill and experience- every day in order to make a positive difference in your life. Yes, it’s a commitment, but the results are their own reward.”
Committed to helping others…

Douglas S. Hale, DPM, graduated with honors from both Tulane University School of Engineering and the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. Upon completion of his Podiatric medical degree, he pursued a residency in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. He is a specialist in biomechanics / orthotics and reconstructive foot and ankle surgery and is highly qualified to treat all foot and ankle disorders. His engineering background gives him a unique perspective treating your problem biomechanically or surgically, and believes in doing what is best for your medical condition. If all options for treating your problem “biomechanically” are exhausted, he provides the same level of capability and experience with surgical solutions.
Dr. Hale’s residency program, currently based at Swedish Medical Center-Providence campus, was and still is rated among the top five in the United States and accepts only two residents yearly. This residency program provides extensive clinical and hospital experience in both common and complex conditions of the foot and ankle and many other: radiology, anesthesia, microsurgery, neurology, vascular surgery, rheumatology, emergency medicine, orthopedic surgery and plastic surgery. In addition, Dr. Hale has specialized training in biomechanics and orthotic therapy.
Dr. Hale, was one of the few in his field to become double-board-certified. He completed his advanced reconstructive surgery training in Seattle at the Northwest Podiatric Surgical Residency Program in 1991 and is Board-Certified in Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He was also Board-Certified 1996 in Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine by the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine.
He has been in private practice in Seattle for over 20 years, treating simple to complex foot and ankle disorders. In 2003, he was elected by his colleagues as Chief of Podiatry Staff, Swedish Medical Center, Seattle, Washington. In 2008 he was elected Residency Director for the Podiatric Surgery program at Swedish Medical Center.
