Today we’re discussing a bit different topic – I just want to make a recommendation on a wakeboard boot for those with flat feet and unstable ankles.  For those of you who might be unfamiliar with the sport, wakeboarding is a surface water sport which involves riding a wakeboard over the surface of water.  It was developed from a combination of water skiing, snowboarding and surfing techniques.

Several seasons ago, I bought the Slingshot PB Floyd since I have extremely flat feet, wear orthotics and need a lot of control.  This is a great binding for those with flat or unstable feet – or anyone with a history of ankle injury or unstable ankles. The PB Floyd is now retired, but as an alternative the Slingshot KTV is a very similar boot with helpful updates like their Trifecta S Velcro closure system.

As a podiatrist and wakeboarder, I would recommend this binding to anyone wanting extra support and an extremely comfortable boot.  An optional inner boot support functions as an ankle brace.  While the “heat moldable” insole is a bit gimmicky, it is still very comfortable.  The insole is made of a foam called EVA that will conform to your foot after a few rides regardless of whether you heat it.

Once again, I would recommend this boot to most anyone, but especially those with unstable feet and ankles.  And for women, the Slingshot Jewel is essentially the same boot.

I was introduced to Slingshot boots by my wakeboard instructor – Greg at Northwest Riders. If you need lessons in the Seattle area, Greg is a talented instructor and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

And if anyone in the Seattle area needs a third for wakeboarding, let me know!
